General Resident Qualifications
Preliminary information for adults interested in future housing.
Because a property has not yet opened, these qualifications are preliminary and may change. Final criteria will be based on the property, housing model, insurance requirements, local regulations, and applicable laws.
General Qualifications
Applicants should generally:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Be legally able to enter into a housing agreement
- Be able to live independently
- Be able to manage personal care and daily living needs without services from Speche'l Independent Living
- Have a reliable and verifiable source of income
- Be willing and able to pay required housing costs on time
- Complete an application and screening process
- Provide accurate information and requested documentation
- Follow reasonable house rules
- Respect other residents, staff, neighbors, and the property
- Avoid violence, threats, harassment, illegal activity, and serious property damage
- Be compatible with a shared-living environment
Income Sources
Residents must have a reliable source of income to cover housing costs. Examples of acceptable income sources may include, but are not limited to:
- Employment income
- Social Security (SSI/SSDI)
- Pensions or retirement funds
- Veterans benefits
- Disability benefits
- Family support or trust funds
- Approved housing vouchers or rental assistance programs
Screening Process
To promote a safe and comfortable environment for all residents, a screening process will be required before approval. This process may include:
- Identity verification
- Income verification
- Background checks
- Rental history review
- Personal references
- An interview or meeting to ensure the housing model is a good fit
